Life Is Better at the Beach

How Lynn Students Use the Beach to Stay Fit & Active

By Delaney Gould, Staff Writer

In a place as beautiful as Boca Raton, Lynn University students use the landscape to work out in new and fun ways on the beach.

Not every college student can say that they live 10 minutes away from some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. This fuels Lynn students’ desire to enjoy the beaches as much and in as many ways as possible. When working out in a conventional campus setting or recreational gym becomes routine, students utilize Boca’s natural beauty to get a change.

“Working out on the beach gives me new challenges that a regular gym can’t replicate,” said Ethan Yorio, a senior. “Running in the sand is significantly different than running on concrete or the treadmill.”

An array of activities can be done when working out on beaches, including running, swimming, diving or even agility workouts. Swimming against ocean currents and running on inclines and elevated surfaces like the sand are sometimes more grueling than hitting the gym alone.

“Although sometimes beach workouts can be super challenging, it is always very rewarding to jump in the ocean right after a good workout,” said Ruby Studer, a freshman.

Aside from the different ways of working out on the beach, one of the more rewarding things about spending time at the shore is the view. Whether you make the trip to the beach at dawn, dusk or the middle of the day, you are almost guaranteed a breathtaking view of the Florida shoreline.

“When I work out on the beach, I prefer to do it in the mornings,” said Studer. “That way, it is cooler out and the sun is shining as it rises.”

No matter how invested you are in your fitness journey, making the trip to the beach may be precisely what your workout routine needs. Enjoy beautiful views and wildlife and enjoy time with friends, all while keeping up with your health.
