How to Survive Senioritis

Tips on Pushing Through the Last Weeks of the Semester

By Cecilia Diaz, Social Media Editor

Raise your hand if you are tired and cannot wait for summer! After another long and strenuous academic year, senioritis is setting in for many, resulting in a decline in motivation. The next thing you know, you will be walking across the stage getting your diploma.

“I’m thriving, just taking it day by day,” said Kayla Meltzer, a senior. “All I have left is a semester of electives, which is easy and can be annoying at the same time.”

These are just a few ways to survive the rest of the academic year. Here are some tips that can help you on that journey.

Prioritize

Do not stress yourself out with a litany of things running through your head. Instead, list what needs to get done first and then move on to the next.

Reinforce Routines

It can be tempting to slip and spiral out of control. Stay in your routine because being in a routine will help you stay focused.

Self-Care

Eat well. Exercise. Rest. Drink water. Do anything that will boost your energy throughout the day. If you need a break, take one because you deserve it!

“I feel like I’m ready for a break,” said Dr. Nava Dushi, Associate Professor of Film and Media Studies. “Every day before summer break, I understand why we have summer break in this profession. To be good at what we do, it is good to have time to refill our batteries and our brains.”

“I am getting through the last few weeks of school by finding fun activities to do on the weekends,” said Julia Delaney, a junior. “I am excited for the summer because I will be searching for an internship and I get to see my friends from back home.”

To all my readers, you are so close to finishing the school year. You got this! I believe in you!
