Singer/songwriter Jake Miller has certainly had one exciting year. From being a local artist in South Florida to recently being nominated for international awards, this South Florida native is most certainly doing something right.

Miller’s recent MTV EMA nomination in the category of “Artist on the Rise” is a major game changer in his career. To add to that, he also was given the opportunity to co-host the MTV EMA Kickoff event on Nov. 9 in Miami alongside Nick Cannon, Nick Jonas and “Awkward” actress Molly Tarlov.

Once he takes a brief moment to reflect, even Miller himself seems to be in slight awe of how far he has come since he first began posing homemade music videos to YouTube as a teenager.

“It’s pretty amazing, yeah, a lot of hometown fans [are here] and this is where my fan base kind of started, so it’s pretty cool to come back,” said Miller.

Despite that on the day of the event it had been raining heavily since the early morning, Millers fans, also known as the “Millertary,”  were out in their hundreds. Some arrived at the venue as early as 6 a.m. to ensure a good seat for the 7 p.m. show.

While Miller sound checked in the afternoon, they enthusiastically bopped along and inched as close as possible to the stage.

“It feels amazing, my fans are very dedicated waiting in the rain. They were loud and they were having fun. I’m so excited,” said Miller.

Part of the excitement is rooted in the fact that Miller had been performing songs from his new EP, titled “Lionheart,” which contains five brand new tracks.

“My favorite is probably ‘Lionheart,’ the last song on the EP, which is why I named the EP after it,” said Miller. “It’s really special to me. I loved making it, I loved writing it, it just symbolizes [encouraging] people to be 100 percent passionate about whatever they do and be lionhearted.”

Being an avid writer, Miller picked the five tracks from a pool of 50 songs. So one can only imagine how much writing he will be doing for his next album.

“I’ll probably start working on [the new album at the] beginning of next year,” said Miller. “I’ll probably make 150 songs,” he added somewhat jokingly.

With the sky as the limit, who knows how far Miller will progress by this time next year, if one thing is clear, it is that the world will be watching as he continues on his journey with the support of his friends, family and adoring fans.
