A Story of Survival

The Shoa Foundation Brings Rose Miednik to Lynn

On April 11, the Shoa Foundation brought a Holocaust survivor to Lynn to record their story, so the world never forgets.

Rose Miednik shared her family’s story of survival and resilience to be recorded and remembered by Lynn University and the Shoa Foundation.

Through a new, historic partnership, the Shoa Foundation and Lynn are working together to give Holocaust survivors a chance to tell their stories to the camera so “Never Forget” can be better fulfilled.

These videos have allowed and will continue to allow historians at both organizations to archive and share this footage to keep a record of the stories of the Holocaust and make sure that as the survivors become fewer their stories can remain in vast numbers.

The Miedniks were Polish Jews who were given the option to be relocated to Siberia by the Soviets just after the Warsaw Pact. Rose’s parents made the choice to leave likely saving them from the fate of more than 3 million Polish Jews during the Nazi’s attempt at the “Final Solution.”

“I think it’s important for everyone to know this because there is so much going on and people don’t know about it, and it has to be out there,” said Miednik. “We went through this…and they (students), should know and should relay to other people because after we’re gone it’s going to be them who have to tell the story.”
