Lynn students express their opinions on how far Ayo Edebiri has come after her breakthrough role in “The Bear.”

During middle school, Edebiri became fascinated with comedy. She joined an improv club at Boston Latin School and attended New York University. Using her love of comedy, she became a stand-up comedian and performed on Comedy Central’s “Up Next.” She gained popularity playing the humorous Chef Sydney Adamu in “The Bear.”

“One of the biggest coping skills that people don’t even realize is, they use humor,” said Ciara Dillon, a freshman majoring in psychology. “It’s okay to not be okay and yet still have a smile on your face.”

Although “The Bear” is considered a comedy, it tackles themes such as depression, anxiety and burnout. Edebiri portrays Adamu as a hardworking chef trying to find her place in a restaurant while being overwhelmed with orders. Her performance earned her a Golden Globe and an Emmy this year at 28 years old.

“I think winning a Golden Globe and an Emmy is impressive at 28 years old because I don’t know many people who have won those awards,” said Hailee Leach, a junior majoring in biology.

Furthering her success, she recently hosted “Saturday Night Live.” She played various characters in the comedy sketch show, such as a game show contestant and a college as well as high school student. A student enjoyed watching Edebiri play a bisexual, energetic boy who believes he is hypnotized.

“Ayo Edebiri is honestly an icon and she’s so funny,” said Sophia Etienne, a sophomore majoring in film production. “She was great on SNL, especially when she [played] a bisexual boy. I think she has a great future in Hollywood and I hope to see her in more future projects!”

Edebiri has proven audiences to have creative and comedic talent. She is a rising actress who has a promising, bright career.
