About three hours from Boca Raton, Florida, travelers are left in awe from viewing the Florida Keys’ natural beauty. The Keys consist of a string of 1,700 islands, some of the most popular being Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon and the farthest away, Key West.

The chainof islands offers some of the best outdoor activities in the country. From fishing and aquarium tours to snorkeling and kayaking, the Keys offer exciting experiences for all to enjoy.

“World class fishing from tuna to snook and tarpon,” said Asim Rehman, a senior. “No matter if you want to fish from land or boat, the keys are the place you want to be.”

Hotels on the keys start at a little over $100 per night during the slower season, between May and October. The islands also offer a variety of campgrounds for those who would rather spend time in nature.

Whether students are into relaxing by the ocean or diving into it, Monroe County has it all.

“The reefs of the Florida Keys offer a unique landscape for snorkeling which you really can’t find anywhere else in the U.S,” said Ella Monti, a junior at the University of Miami. “Silent World Dive Center in Key Largo was great, we saw many species of fish, rays and even a nurse shark.”

Key West is the southernmost point of the continental U.S., with a famous buoy landmark being the center of postcard photos. For those who are 21 years old and over, Key West offers vibrant nightlife.

“Peak tourism in the Florida Keys starts right after the holidays in late December and lasts through May, said Travel and Leisure Magazine. “During the winter months it almost never rains, and even if clouds do push through with some showers, they’re gone that day.”

For Lynn students, the slower season, void of busy touristic activity, offers better deals as .From campus, the drive takes a little more than three hours to get to paradise. This is an excellent option for those who want to experience a weekend getaway without booking airfare
