Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice

How to Feel Comfy This Fall

By Katie Zivley, Co-Editor-in-Chief

Even though it is still 85 degrees Fahrenheit in South Florida, campus is beginning to get cozy and there are still ways to romanticize the fall season.

To some, fall is the most anticipated season of the year as it brings chillier nights, pumpkin spice and everything nice. Many look forward foliage chaning color, drinking toasty teas and baking. People have always enjoyed pumpkin bread and pumpkin spice lattes as they get into the fall
spirit.

“Start with ambiance in a room, turn on some fairy lights, light a candle and snuggle under a blanket,” said Bianca Cain, a junior. “Wear fuzzy socks and make yourself a cup of chai or a pumpkin spice latte.”

Candles such as pumpkin spice, sweet vanilla, smoky fireplace or fallen leaves are some common serotonin-boosting scents, which can transform the environment into a warm, comforting autumn-feeling place for anyone, even in South Florida.

“As a New Englander, fall is one of my favorite seasons because you really experience fall and see it visually all around,” said Eleanor Bruce, a senior. “I try to replicate the feeling of fall with things like candles, cute lighting in my room and having hot baths.”

Aside from getting cozy to enrich the fall vibes, certain types of clothing might be worn more often in the fall to adjust to the cooler weather.

In Florida, nights don’t get as cold as they do up North, leaving few opportunities to wear sweatshirts and boots outside of the cooler months. As the fall season rolls back around, some fashion favorites return, including light beige sweaters, darker-colored hats, cardigans and white jeans.

“I love to layer up, wear soft sweaters and boots,” said Valeria Lopez, a sophomore. “I enjoy more outdoor activities and warm beverages like hot chocolate.”

Students on campus already come to class wearing sweatpants and sweatshirts, even when it is still warm in Florida, because of the air conditioning keeping classrooms cooler. These garments are mainly worn for early on-campus classes individuals are still tired from waking up
and want to be cozy in class.

Some fall activities students can engage in include baking pumpkin muffins, exploring different coffee shops and trying out recipes found online. Grab a soft blanket, get comfortable on the couch and enjoy this season!
