Y2K is Here to Stay

Students at Lynn Faced With a Dilemma as Y2K Fashion Trends Make a Resurgence

When keeping up with current fashion trends, it is apparent that the infamous Y2K trend is making a comeback.

The popular trend in the 2000s  is characterized by bright colors and wide-legged jeans. The turn of the century brought about a unique era in fashion. Now, two decades later, it may be the perfect time to dust those old denim-on-denim or Juicy Couture tracksuits off.

“Current styles of 2023 pull from both ‘90s and Y2K’s fashion but add their own modern twist,” said Rylee Phillips, a senior.

“I think that certain styles are now coming back but I feel this fashion era is more put together,” said Mikeyla Preziosi, a sophomore.

Older generations are excited to see Y2K trending in current fashion, although people in Generation X have mixed emotions about this trend.

“It’s not that I don’t like Y2K,” said Mackenzie Driver-Benjamin, a junior. I just appreciate today’s fashion more because it allows me to be free with my style.”

Though there are some differences between today’s styles and the Y2K era, the right fashion for an individualdepends on their personality. Both the old and the new Y2K offers something for everyone.
