Grieving the loss of a pet is a traumatic experience, and the bond between a person and their dog is unique and deeply treasured.

“Dogs leave a paw print on our heart,” stated Ariana Nuzzo.

One Lynn student who understands the impact a dog has on a person’s emotional well-being is Charlie Lawson, a Lynn student who lost his dog this summer. Afterwards, Lawson found it difficult to perform daily activities.

“It’s been difficult to find my footing,” said Lawson.” I’ve tried to distract myself by picking up new hobbies, attending free counseling at Lynn, but nothing I do will bring her back. I just have to try my best to move on.”

The loss of a dog leaves many dog owners like Lawson having to create new daily routines since their old routine included activities they used to do with their dog, like going on walks or socializing at dog parks. For Lawson, the loss of his dog and his daily routine has had a tremendous effect on his life and identity.

“She became part of my identity almost,” said Lawson “We both had a desire to explore the neighborhood a bit each day and it was magical to be able to see the world through her eyes. She was a big part of my life, and she’s not in it anymore.”

While some might not acknowledge the loss of a pet as traumatic, many Lynn students understand the struggles and mental health issues that can occur while grieving the loss of a pet. iPulse sends its condolences to anyone who has recently experienced the loss of a furry friend.
