Letter From The Editor: COVID-19

Dear Lynn Community,

An informed citizenry has always been a pillar of American society, but the importance of staying informed today cannot be overstated. As Lynn’s student news organization, iPulse is dedicated to bringing you the facts and informing our community, especially in these daunting times.

The City of Boca Raton: Local State of Emergency

The City of Boca Raton declared a local state of emergency on Monday due to the threat and spread of COVID-19. Beginning today (March 17) at 5 p.m., all bars and nightclubs in Florida will close for 30 days in accordance with Governor DeSantis’s order, and all restaurants within the City of Boca Raton will shut down except for drive-through, take-out and delivery services. Beginning tomorrow (March 18), all Boca Raton City parks, beaches and facilities will close, including City Hall, the Downtown Library, Gumbo Limbo Nature Center and many others.

Lynn University: Time to Chime

All Lynn University graduate and undergraduate classes will now be held online (primarily via Amazon Chime), and residence halls will close on Saturday, March 21 at 7 p.m. for the remainder of the semester. Effective immediately, campus access will only be granted to students, employees (faculty and professional staff) and registered guests.

As of March 17, there are still no confirmed cases of COVID-19 on campus. In order to help prevent any possible spread of the virus, it is with a heavy heart that the iPulse team has decided to stop distributing weekly paper editions effective immediately. We will now publish articles exclusively on our website for the foreseeable future, but rest assured that we are still working tirelessly to keep our community informed.

Out of an abundance of caution and respect for our staff, we are not asking the iPulse editorial team or staff writers to attend events or hold interviews in-person at this time. The team is still able to cover events and publish pieces, but we highly recommend that any interviews or informational exchanges take place virtually.

Sincerely,

The iPulse Team
