Lynn Welcomes Parents and Families

This weekend, Lynn will host its annual Parents and Families Weekend, a fun-filled event where guests will enjoy academic sessions, meals and mingling, open houses and other evening activities. The weekend is aimed at introducing the families to all of the amazing things happening around campus.

The weekend begins with registration and check in on Friday starting at 8 a.m., where families will gather in the Wold Performing Arts Center. At 10 a.m., one of the first events to be held is a presentation entitled “Going Global: Study Abroad Options at Lynn University,” meant to showcase the myriad of study abroad options presently available to students throughout their time in school.

“There’s no need to wait to internationalize your education, students are eligible to study abroad after only one semester at Lynn. More importantly, study abroad doesn’t have to cost more. For semester programs, students pay the same tuition and room and board as they do at Lynn and scholarships and financial aid still apply. Essentially, Lynn students are paying to study abroad whether they go or not.”

Other informational academic sessions are being hosted this weekend too, including “Inside Lynn’s 21st Century Classroom,” a presentation aimed at letting parents know just how technologically savvy their children are when it comes to learning. One of the highlights of this presentation is the discussion of Lynn’s iPad initiative.

As the jam-packed weekend continues, students may introduce their families to the multiple offices around campus during the open house sessions. The Hannifan Center for Career Connections, Institute for Achievement and Learning, Student Financial Services, School of Aeronautics and International Services, will all be hosting open house sessions throughout Friday.

After coming to understand the academic environment of Lynn, families may find themselves feeling somewhat hungry. In this situation, they can visit the Elmore Dining Commons to enjoy the latest and greatest foods prepared fresh and often right on the spot.

“[Today], Lynn Dining is proud to welcome Nichole Campo, celebrity chef and author, who will be featuring cuisine from her latest gluten free cookbook in the Elmore Dining

Commons from 11 a.m. [until] 3 p.m. with a meet the author opportunity, highlighting our commitment to innovative offerings in our award winning 24 hour venue.”

On Saturday at noon, the weekend’s signature event, the Lynn family picnic, will be hosted near the Bobby Campbell Stadium and the Perper Intramural Field. This event brings all faculty, staff, students and their families together for “good food, fun in the sun, music and plenty of activities for kids of all ages,”—and possibly a special visit from President Ross himself.

Saturday’s highlights also include a Life at Lynn session from 11 a.m. until noon, where President Ross, along with faculty and staff from Student Affairs and Athletics, will provide information on what is happening within the various departments.

“Parents and Families weekend is a great time for parents to see what their student’s home away from home is like,” said Caryn Morris, senior.

Later that day, at 2 p.m., students get to bring their families to watch a men’s soccer game where our Fighting Knights will go up against Eckerd College.

The entertainment continues through the evening as student photography is set to be exhibited at the Vertu Fine Art Gallery within the Boca Center. Around the same time at 7:30 p.m., musicians from the Conservatory of Music will deliver a Philharmonia performance featuring conductor Guillermo Figueroa.
