The GAME Club at Lynn University hosted a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles themed outdoor dodgeball event, with attempts to show Lynn students that all are welcome to join their club.

The club has its sights set on gathering new members. They are trying to do so by providing games to break a stereotype that gamers are “always inside in their dorm.” The growing club wants people to know that the club is for anyone.

“Yeah, we want more to join, obviously,” said Matthew Feldman, president of the GAME club. “GAME club is for everyone, even if it’s not typical nerd stuff, everyone nerds out over something. We have done WII, Gartic Phone, and free for all events. You can come together here in a really nice environment.”

The themed event was outdoors with hopes of gathering new members and meeting good people. The event included four MVP prizes, one for each of the four dodgeball teams, of which one would elect an MVP.

“We want to get as many people as we can,” said Feldman. “All of our events are about having fun. We have MVP awards here. Have teamwork and get to know people better, and hopefully enjoy the fun!”

“The GAME club is so enjoyable,” said Kyle Mainglt, a GAME club member. “We did a kickball event in the past, and it got a massive turnout. We are going to try to have more active events because they are getting lots of participation. It also breaks the stereotype that nerds sit in their rooms. We’re still being nerdy, but with dodgeball.”

The number of people in the game club makes up for the diversity of the club. The community of the club, and the friendships in the club makes everyone in the “glued” together.

“There’s more to Lynn than school and homework,” said Mainglt. “There are many social interactions. Today’s event gives people something to do. There’s a wide variety of people here!”

The club is looking to becoming more popular in the coming months. However, the club becoming what it is today did not come without a challenge.

“Honestly I’ve been doing it since sophomore year,” said Feldman. “I was told if I didn’t take it far, it would be deactivated. I really love having a place where people can come together and be themselves. We have events for every interest. It’s a great place for people to come and be involved in.”

The GAME club also has anime, board games and entertainment. Be part of the game club by reaching out today and finding events on Blueprint.
