On Feb. 10, 2024, Senior Day commemorated Lynn University’s Ice Hockey Club’s seniors at Palm Beach Skate Zone. Eight ice hockey seniors are set to graduate this semester, leaving years of memories battling on the ice.

Daniel Coffey, Jack Douglas, Matt Fromer, Chris Graham, Thomas Gramando, Kevin Mikolanda, Matthew Shandler and Zachary Stephens were honored before their final game on Saturday afternoon. The players were all accompanied and embraced by their parents as the crowd celebrated with them. Brotherhood has been exemplified all season and was shown throughout the ceremony.

“It’s been fun. These are your brothers [out here],” said Kevin Mikolanda, Fighting Knights Captain. “You look to the left, to the right, every single one of them, you’re friends with, even [outside of] hockey. It’s more than just hockey; you’re always seeing them, always around them. We’re always hanging out. It’s just like one big family. It’s the best.”

Mikolanda recorded two goals and six assists as a defenseman in 21 games played this season. Although it was an emotional and successful ceremony, Senior Day was spoiled as the Florida State Seminoles bested the Lynn University Fighting Knights 4-0. The Fighting Knights finished their season with a 6-16 record in Division II, College Hockey South. Dave Moree, Fighting Knights head coach, highlighted his team’s diligence and selflessness throughout the season.

“We have a great group of seniors,” said Moree. “I think they really put their time in, just learning about being a team player, making sacrifices, and contributing to the team. I think all our seniors worked really hard; I think they love the game and I’m sure they’ll play the game for the rest of their lives. It’s about commitment, teamwork, making sacrifices, and supporting each other. I think that’s something they’ll carry [with them] for the rest of their lives.”
