Lynnsgiving and Get-Togethers

How Lynn Students Can Spend Their Thanksgiving Break

By Nick Blanchette, Staff Writer

With Thanksgiving weeks away, college students across the country are looking forward to eating delicious, traditional meals and sharing memories with friends and family during the holiday.

Thanksgiving break also provides students with a much-welcomed and well-deserved break from their classes. College students who live in Florida may even be spending that time with their loved ones off campus; however, since many students attending Lynn University are from other states and counties, not everyone will be able to spend their holiday at home.

For some of those students, spending the holiday with friends instead of their family has replaced old traditions.

“This year, I’m looking forward to staying on campus and spending the break with my friends for my first Friendsgiving,” said Kieria Howard, a Lynn junior.

On Thanksgiving, students like Howard will have the opportunity to relish classic autumn foods prepared by the staff at Mary’s Kitchen. Lynn also hosts holiday events like last year’s “Lynnsgiving in Christine’s Park.” During the event, staff members offered a variety of tasty dishes at different stations, such as grilled eggplant, roasted corn on the cob, pumpkin pie and smoked turkey.

“My favorite Thanksgiving food would have to be the honey ham my grandfather makes every year for us, or the caramel cake my auntie makes,” said Howard.

For those able to travel, the holiday break offers students a chance to visit relatives that they have not seen in a while.

“I have traveled before for Thanksgiving,” said Howard. “I usually traveled to Georgia for the last couple of years and one year, we even went to Kentucky.”

Whether students are staying on campus to attend Lynnsgiving or celebrating off campus with family, Thanksgiving week offers a timely break just before finals, allowing students and staff to finish the fall semester strong.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
