Preparing for Takeoff

Lynn Alumnus Nicholas Civette Is Thriving as an Aviation Professional

Following graduation in 2022, Nicholas Civette has continued to thrive in the field of aviation, becoming both a flight instructor and professor at Lynn.

Ever since he was a young child, Civette had a passion for science and space, which led him to the goal of becoming an astronaut. However, unlike many young children who aspire to become astronauts, his hard work and drive to succeed allowed him to never give up on that goal, leading him to the Lynn Aviation Program.

Civette began studying to receive both his Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Certified Flight Instructor, Instrument (CFII) certifications after graduation. For many people, this is a long and stressful process, but Civette was able to use the study skills he acquired at Lynn to get the best possible score on both exams.

“The best advice I have for students looking to get their CFI or CFII is to use flashcards and study until the information is perfectly memorized,” said Civette. “I know it’s not the most fun way to learn and it takes a while, but it was very effective for me.”

Between having to balance skill, safety, scheduling and other factors, becoming a pilot is not easy work. It is estimated that only 25% of flight students end up completing their training. However, Civette is not the kind of person to give up when the going gets tough.

“I think something that pilots don’t hear often enough is that it is OK to be a bit arrogant sometimes,” said Civette. “You put all the hard work in to succeed, no matter who helped you along the way, and that’s something you should be proud of.”

Civette is currently in the process of logging flight hours to become a certified pilot. With that title, he would be able to work for major airlines like his top choice, Delta, and work towards his goal of one day going into space.
