Lynn University Students Review the 96th Academy Awards

On Mar. 10, 2024, the 96th Academy Awards took place at Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, surprising many with the results. iPulse interviewed students to get their thoughts.


The Oscars are the dominant award show in the film industry, drawing in millions of viewers each year. The event is a glamorous ceremony with its iconic red carpet that celebrities walk down in fancy gowns and suits.


“I love watching the Oscars every year since I love films, and it is my major,” said Rylee Philips, a senior. “Plus, I like to see all my favorite celebrities looks on the red carpet.”


23 awards were given to people in the industry that fall under categories such as Best Costume Design, Best Picture, Best Original Song and many others. “Oppenheimer,” took home seven awards, including best picture, while Emma Stone was awarded best actress for her role in “Poor Things.”


“Film being my major has made me appreciate and understand what goes into making a film,” said Philips. “I am so happy that Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell got the award for Original Song.”


Some celebrities performed at the show with popular songs from the nominated movies. Ryan Gosling performed the song “I’m Just Ken” from “Barbie.”


“I loved Arianna Grande’s dress on the red carpet,” said Alexa Cohen, a senior. “Plus, watching Ryan Gosling performing ‘I’m Just Ken’ live was so funny and cool to hear live, and I was so happy that Emma Stone won the award for Actress in a Leading Role for the movie ‘Poor Things.’ She is a great actress.”


People in the film industry go to the Oscars to celebrate the films and all the hard work they put into them. It is truly a celebration of the arts!
