Athletes Show Their Appreciation for the Wellness Center at Lynn University

Lynn University’s highly anticipated addition, the Snyder Center for Health and Wellness, is receiving rave reviews from students.

The new fitness center officially opened its doors on Oct. 14, 2023 offering relief to many student-athletes who have been without an exercise facility since the former location was converted into a classroom at the beginning of the 2023-24 academic year.

“The new gym is pretty good, offering lots of space,” said Gianmarco Amatiste, a tennis player at Lynn. “Especially for athletes who have lots of space over there, it’s comfortable.”

Despite going without a proper fitness center for a few months, Lynn’s student-athletes remained determined to stay in shape through hard work and improvisation.

“We did workouts on the court with sprints. Because of that, it was not that bad for us,” said Amatiste.

Even though it was possible to come up with improvised workouts, not having a comprehensive fitness center complicated matters. Having to leave campus to lift weights was not a panacea as it requires a gym membership and transportation, something not all students have access to.

“I had to get day passes or free trials,” said Ewan Farr, a member of Lynn’s basketball team. “I’d get day passes to lift weights, or if I didn’t go to the gym, I would do cardio.”

For most student-athletes, the amenities offered by an on-campus fitness center are irreplaceable, as not all of them have the time or financial means to commute to an off-campus location in order to exercise.

“For athletes, it helps to be in shape,” said Amatiste. “It especially helps because we can use this space with trainers and machines.”

The Snyder Center for Health and Wellness has been well received since its opening. It it located in the center of Lynn’s campus across from the University Center.
