With the explosive growth of social media, self-employment has become a desirable goal for many, with online startups on the rise.

Nowadays, when asking a child what they would like to become when they grow up, some might respond: a doctor, teacher, businessman or even an astronaut. Others may say: a content creator such as YouTubers, streamers or vloggers.

“It seems like a fun way to make a living, and they help a lot of people,” said Micheal Wineberger, a Lynn senior.

A content creator is generally defined as someone who creates entertaining or educational material to be expressed through any medium or channel. Content creators have a lot of fun; however, there is a different set of skills required for this job, including writting, storytelling, photography and videography to name a few.

“Personally, I consider that to be a career where you’re putting in effort and creativity in making these videos and showing people how to do something they don’t want to do,” said Nellie Cruz, a Lynn junior.

A content creator must also be creative, show emotion and make sure that they offer their audience value that keeps them coming back for more.

“If people can make a little money off this, it doesn’t hurt anyone,” said Taylor Rodina, a Lynn junior.

As said by famous content creators, this seems like an easy profession, but in reality, it is one of the hardest professions to enter. But just like any profession, it can be extremely rewarding and fulfilling.
