Samantha Samarelli’s Journey into the World of Professional Psychology

Following her graduation from Lynn, Samantha Samarelli (Class of 2020) has gone on to do amazing things, such as obtaining her master’s degree and working at multiple private practices as a therapist.

After graduating, Samarelli obtained her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Palm Beach Atlantic University, which she was able to accomplish in less than a year. During that time, she also interned at the Faulk Counseling Center in Boca Raton to gain professional experience.

“Being a full-time master’s student and an intern for the Faulk Center was a lot at times,” said Samarelli. “But I’m so grateful for the real-life experience it gave me with clients belonging to all sorts of demographics, which helped me realize my passion for working with young adults.”

After obtaining her graduate degree in December 2022, Samarelli was hired by a small private practice in Lake Worth, Florida. However, after recently deciding she was ready for more of a challenge, she moved to another private practice where she was able to take on more clients.

“Sometimes it takes a while to find your perfect job, especially when working in a field as tough as mental health counseling,” says Samarelli. “Don’t get discouraged if you find that your job or internship isn’t the right fit for you because every position is a learning experience.”

In September 2023, she began working at Psychological Testing Associates in Plantation, Florida, and is currently specializing in offering services to children, teens and young adults who have autism. Additionally, she works as an education and event coordinator for the Florida Mental Health Counselors Association.

“One of the biggest misconceptions about getting a job in psychology is that you’ll never have free time,” says Samarelli. “I love staying busy but the fact that I still have time to see my friends, and family, and have fun on top of working is a plus.”

Samarelli currently runs a therapy-themed Instagram account that she hopes to grow throughout her time in the field. She is also looking to apply to doctorate programs in the next few years to further improve her professional skills.
