Sodexo employee Betty King nurtured a heartwarming story as she shared her background, passions, work experience and her greatest advice.

King, who hails from Panama, immigrated to the U.S. many years ago, bringing her faith and culture along with her. As a woman of God and proud Panamanian, she touches hearts with her whimsical and tender personality. Because of this, she is more than a cafeteria worker; she is a bundle of joy whose warmth is unfailing.

King worked in the kitchen at a veteran’s hospital in Miami, which she treasured because the doctors cared for her and other employees well. However, due to personnel reduction, she had to search for another job. Her neighbor mentioned that Sodexo, a food services provider, was hiring at Barry University. She was soon hired, but the university eventually changed companies, so she came to Lynn University with Sodexo thereafter.

“If I can help, I’m going to do it,” said King.

King has been sharing her benevolence with Lynn students for over 10 years. She cherishes both coworkers and students because of their respect towards her. King recalled a time when a student could barely walk, so she pulled her aside, hugging and praying over her. She believes that prayer is the key for life; the student walked as if nothing ever happened the following week.

“Don’t worry about what you cannot control. Live life because you’re here today; you’re out tomorrow,” said King. “Don’t bring your troubles to work. Leave your troubles behind the door.”

Humble, kind and prayerful are the attributes of King’s magnetic touch. She described herself as such. Indyah Ferrouillet, a Lynn student, also confirmed these qualities by stating that King is a favorite because of her positive, energetic attitude that draws people in.

“Every interaction she has is personal,” said Ferrouillet. “You can tell that she really enjoys getting to know us and see us every day.”

Besides bonding with the Lynn community, King loves sewing, cooking and cleaning. She is truly one of a kind. Her personality is the experience.
