Since 1962, Founder’s Day has been an annual tradition at Lynn University.

President Emeritus, Donald E. Ross, began reshaping Marymount College after his first visit in 1962. The school’s name was changed to the college of Boca Raton in 1974, about five years after it became a co-ed university. The university then received its final name change again in 1991, where it was renamed to Lynn University. Since then, hard work and transformation have been celebrated as an annual tradition.

“It’s an amazing day to look at where we come from, who got us here, look at our history and just reminisce a little bit,” said Kevin M. Ross, President of Lynn University.

President Kevin M. Ross has worked to keep the legacy alive by incorporating the traditions like Founders Day into the Lynn Community. November 1st has become a day full of community bonding over delicious foods.

“You get to be with family and friends and create memories,” said Ross. “There are certain foods that remind you of things, and it’s a big family outing.”

Founder’s Day morning is also host to one of Lynn’s most competitive events: The Adult Big Wheel Race. Hosted by the Adult Big Wheel Club of Atlanta Georgia, the event sees the two roundabouts in front of the dining center be transformed into a racetrack, where teams of four go head-to-head in relay races on top of Adult Sized Tricycles.

“President Ross, when he was younger, when his father was the president of the campus, he used to ride around the entire campus on his tricycle,” said Gabriella Barretta, a volunteer working with the Big Wheel Club. “So, this kind of became a tradition for Founder’s Day, since it is our annual day of being Lynn University. President Ross gets very competitive in this competition.”

Whether students are looking for a fulfilling speech to listen to or simply race it out on some tricycles, Founder’s Day is a tradition that has it all. Students interested in finding out about future campus events can do so by visiting https://www.lynn.edu/events.
