Alberto Gomez Continues to Positively Impact Lynn Through the Watson Institute

By Sydney Burke, Social Media Editor

Since graduating in 2019, Lynn University alumnus Alberto Gomez has worked with the Watson Institute, where he currently serves as senior director of operations.

When Gomez graduated high school, his original plan did not include attending college. Instead, he opted to join the military. However, in 2016, he decided to leave the military and begin looking into universities with entrepreneurial degrees. At the time, Gomez’s veteran status meant he could attend a Yellow Ribbon School, meaning he could receive his education for free. Fortunately for him and the Lynn, the university was part of that program.

“I want to bring exposure to other veterans who are transitioning and trying to figure out where they can get a valuable education,” said Gomez. “I was essentially able to get a full ride through Lynn, which helped me be less stressed about how I would pay for school, and I took this opportunity to get everything out of the school possible.”

During his time at Lynn, Gomez took advantage of on-campus employment opportunities and met with professors to make connections, which he urges other students to do.

“I would try to set up coffees with professors and other things outside of the classroom,” said Gomez. “They’re a really great resource for learning how to interact with the business community because they’re living the things that they’re teaching.”

In his current role, Gomez works in human resources for the Watson Institute with a focus on building a positive culture in the workplace. All of his work is done remotely, which has tremendously benefited him.

“When COVID hit and we had to move everything remotely, it was definitely an adjustment to learn how to manage myself daily with work tasks,” said Gomez. “But working remotely has allowed me to jump between different entrepreneurial hubs and create connections I’d never get if I had to stay in one physical location.”

One of Gomez’s current job requirements is acquiring new talent for the Watson Institute, which is currently hiring entry-level positions that come with many benefits. If interested, please visit the Watson Institute website at https://watson.is.
