When entering adult life, as intimidating as it can be, it will always be worth it in the long run.

Entering a new stage of life can be extremely difficult, but once people take that step, they will be transitioning into a better version of their lives. Some benefits of stepping outside of established comfort zones include feeling empowered, confident and realizing how great people feel about themselves after.

“Stepping outside of our comfort zones makes us learn and develop critical thinking, which will prepare us for future challenges that life may bring,” said Sofia Dajer Carrera, a Lynn University sophomore. “From my experience as an international student, doing what you are mostly scared of is the only way of solving those fears.”

Remaining steadfast in comfort zone provides a sense of safety, but when people begin changing their environments, lifestyles and themselves overall, they can become happier and gain confidence about the directions in which their lives are heading.

“What always helps in stepping out of your comfort zone is doing it with someone you’re comfortable with,” said Nicole Bonikowski, a Lynn freshman. “If you’re worried about going to a club meeting or hanging out with new people, take someone familiar to support you.”

Consider joining an on-campus club that of interest, apply for a position that might challenge those who are afraid of public speaking or ask a stranger where they got their outfit. These are small steps that can help build the confidence required to feel comfortable stepping outside of comfort zones. The worst thing that could happen is that they make a mistake, but one which they learn from.

“I think stepping outside of your comfort zone is what has to be done in order to grow in life,” said Emily Edwards, a Lynn graduate student. “I have experienced some of the most awesome things in life by going beyond my comfort zone, such as moving to Florida away from all my family.”

If people stay in their comfort zones, they will not change, so remember that it is never too late for someone to follow their dreams and take on the unknown.
