Students discuss how social media is a powerful tool in their everyday life that allows them to create and share content, express passions and embrace success.
Platforms like Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter are essential for self-expression and sharing knowledge as it offers opportunities for friendships, growth, a sense of belonging and self-worth.
“Social media has helped me express what I am passionate about and brings awareness to it,” said Priscilla Stalker, sophomore.
Many students use Instagram and Tik Tok platforms to create a small community and share ideas with one another. This community allows students to feel connected with others and enhances the ability to interact with new people about relatable topics and ideas.
“Social media has allowed me to express myself and let people know who I am, but it has also allowed me to spread awareness on certain topics to each of my followers,” said Rylee Phillips, freshman.
Those with small and large platforms can instantaneously share content to a worldwide audience with a click of a button. It is easy for students to share what they are passionate about and connect with others personally and professionally. Russo, a senior at Lynn, has experienced this first-hand with her artwork.
“Social media has helped me build a platform to network with people from all over the world. It has helped my artwork be seen and helped me build a business for myself,” said Jenna Russo, senior. “It spreads news fast around my community like events that are being held.”
It is safe to say that social media impacts students heavily as it is a great way to get heard and recognized both personally and professionally. Students can find their voice, raise attention to important issues and simply express themselves however they please.
