Fighting Knights Fuel Philanthropy

Lynn’s third annual Day of Giving, a 24-hour fundraiser directly supporting scholarships, arts and culture, facilities and technology, kicks off today at 8 p.m. with exciting new twists includinglive-streams and digital crowdfunding.

Day of Giving’s #OneLynn campaign focuses on uniting the Lynn family under one goal –obtaining 400 donations in 24 hours. Aside from directly funding scholarships, donations from Day of Giving support students in a variety of other areas including developing opportunities, facultyand facilities.

“Our alumni and friends continue to amaze us with their generosity and support for our Day of Giving,” said Sherry Henry, associate director of annual giving. “They truly embody the spirit, service and strength of our community.”

Last year, the Office of Developmentraised over $50,000 from 312 donors. This year, the department not only plans to shatter last year’s record, but isalso eager to reveal several new additions to the philanthropic day, including the use of the digital fundraising platform GiveCampus.

“We encourage everyone who loves Lynn to help us spread the word,” said Henry. “It’s the power we have together that makes fund-raisers like this so successful.”

The top five Fighting Knights who direct the most attention to the campaign will receive special prizes. Another new feature is a Facebook and Instagram live-stream. This facet of the fundraising efforts focuses on fosteringstudent engagement and providinga light-hearted, uplifting form of entertainment for volunteers and students.

“It’s really exciting to bring something new to Day of Giving this year with the live-stream event,” said Jessica Burke, Office of Development administrative assistant. “We have a lot of fun surprises planned, so I hope people donate, tune in and have a good laugh.”

Burke, Henry and the student philanthropy team came together to develop interactive milestones for the live-stream broadcast.  Two of these involve special surprises forboth criminal justice Professor Paul Gormley and President Kevin Ross.
