Former Lynn Lacrosse Player Sailing Around the World Jensen Colberg Travels Around the World as a First Mate on a Yacht

Lynn alumnus Jensen Colberg spent the past year traveling the world as a first mate for Walkers Marine Group. Colberg recently arrived home after months of being at sea.

Colberg, a member of the Class of 2020, was part of Lynn’s accelerated undergraduate program and achieved a Bachelor of Science in International Business and a minor in Aviation Management in just three years. He was also a member of the Dean’s List all three years, a three-year student athlete and a member of the men’s lacrosse team.

Originally from Madison, Conn., Colberg grew up working at marinas nearby in Westbrook. After moving to Naples, Fla., he continued working for marinas in South Florida, where he was eventually hired by the prestigious Walkers Marina Group. Colberg was promoted to first mate, working with a crew on a 130-foot luxurious yacht named Miss Christine. While Colberg’s passion for boating always existed, his desire to travel significantly developed during his college years.

“I’ve always loved boating and working on the marina, but from studying abroad my junior year at Lynn, it really opened up my love for traveling,” said Colberg.

While working on Miss Christine, Colberg traveled up and down the East Coast and out of the country to numerous islands in The Bahamas. His daily duties included day-to-day operation of the vessel, water sports, engineering, navigation, and the safety and entertainment of passengers, one of which was CEO of NASCAR Jim France.

Colberg acknowledges his time at Lynn significantly shaped who he is today and where he is in his career. He is thankful for his time at Lynn since the university helped him develop his current lifestyle.

“The environment at Lynn has helped form my lifestyle of having fun and working hard while living life on the edge,” said Colberg.

Colberg looks to continue his career in the boating and travel industry and hopes to further himself as a businessman and entrepreneur, hopefully owning his marina in South Florida one day.
