The Sorority Rush Has Begun: Experiences of Current Lynn Students Rushing

With recruitment for Greek Life recently closing, learn more about what to expect during the recruitment and what to look forward to for Fall 2021 from current recruiters Stephanie Bauman and Katherine VanMiddlesworth.

Recruitment happens every fall and spring semester. Every semester there is a different theme. For the fall 2020 semester, the theme was ‘Ice Ice Baby,’ and this semester, the theme was ‘Roundin’ Up the Best.’

“So far, I have had so much fun with recruitment,” said VanMiddlesworth, senior. “I loved the different themes of the events and how everyone really got into dressing up!”

During the recruitment process, the first event potential new members attend is Greek Info Night. After the info night, there will be three rounds the potential new members will attend. The last round is called “Pref Night,” which is by invitation only.

“I think my favorite part has been being able to meet new people,” said VanMiddlesworth. “I am a pretty social person, and it is a great opportunity to make connections.”

This year, recruitment was a little different. Events were mainly held via Zoom, while others were in person. Each round, the potential new members make a stronger connection with the current sisters.

Recruitment is a way for current sisters and potential new members to make connections and see if a sorority is a good fit.

“From either being online or in-person for some of the events, I have made amazing, lifelong connections,” said Bauman, freshman. “Even when you are online, they still manage to include you in everything going on in person!! All the sisters of Theta Phi are so welcoming and so sweet!”
